Ovarian cysts are of various types. There could be simple cysts or a haemorrhagic cyst. Simple cyst usually does not require a surgery and if they are 5 cms or less in size they can be easily treated with medication alone. It is only when the cyst increases in size or it consist of some other components like a haemorrhagic cyst or a dermoid cyst it is only then a surgery needs to be considered.
